Longing for the Sun, June Will Come

Dear Reader,

I find it hard to believe I actually typed the title above but there it is, at the advanced age of 35 I still find ways to surprise myself.

Heat has always tired me excessively, and I usually tend to keep away from the sun. However, after the extremely cold winter that we had, -20 degrees and frozen water pipes and all, we also had to suffer through a rather cold and dreary spring which over the past week has seen it fit to rain almost without stopping.

So really, enough is enough and I long for early morning temperatures that would allow me to leave for work in a cardigan and sandals, and not a lightweight down jacket and bad weather loafers.

But, fortunately or not, there’s no stopping Father Time, and “There should be sunshine after rain“as Dire Straits sing. Based on these two posits, I place my faith and trust in the approaching month of June, which, alongside the arrival of summer, holds a very exciting prospect for me – a trip to Singapore and Malaysia, the latter known, I hope rightly, as the Heaven on Earth.

Morning Under the Fig Tree by cartoonist Tenyo Pindarev. The cartoon is of prominent Bulgarian writer and painter Chudomir (1890-1967). Art by Chudomir here. More about famous people from Kazanlak, here. More about Kazanlak’s rose oil business, here. More cartoons by Tenyo Pindarev here and here. I hope to read and relax on the 12-hour flight to Singapore.

June holds plenty of excitement in store for me, such as my brother’s wedding, to take place a few days after I get back.

Raindrops may be falling on my head,

but my mind is on an island many miles away from home
